Research at the Department of Computer Science
Welcome to the department's research pages. The pages linked from here
give a comprehensive overview of the departmental research activities.
Research Areas
- An introduction
-
The department groups its research into the following themes,
each one consisting of a set of more specific topics:
- Computer Vision
The vision group covers topics in video analysis, motion tracking, Visual
SLAM and their applications
in medical imaging, robotics, biological
research, security and entertainment.
- Cryptography
The Cryptography Group conducts research into the underlying hard
problems on which cryptography
is based and the hardware and software
needed to implement secure systems.
- HARE
The HARE group is a collective of researchers with
a common interest in making faster things. Our
research covers systems,
architecture, algorithms, languages, verification and design.
When people
ask about our group name, we might reply that Handy
Acronyms Rarely Exist.
- Intelligent Systems
Research in the Intelligent Systems group explores and exploits general
principles underlying learning
and intelligence in machines and biological
systems. We focus on Machine Learning: software that
improves with experience;
Computational Biology: models of biological systems; and
Bio-inspired
Computation: imitating nature's solutions.
- Interaction & Graphics
Interaction and Graphics Group explores creative
interdisciplinary research topics spanning
human-computer interaction,
visual and tactile perception, imaging, visualisation and
computer-supported collaboration.
