Abstract

Sequence comparison is an important tool in the determination of the homology (relatedness) between sets of genetic material. This information provides evidence about the evolutionary history of and the relationships between organisms. A system to compute signatures for subfamilies of organisms in a given phylogenetic tree from a multiple alignment of 5S rRNA sequence data has been implemented in the logic programming language Godel. The advantages of using the Godel programming language are discussed and example results of the program t SigNature are presented.
