1) Post-Doctoral Research Associate

£29,972-£36,862 per annum, depending on skills and experience
Term: initially for 2 years

The closing date for applications is 9.00am, 24th August 2011 (contact ASAP for informal pre-application discussion -strongly advised-)

The project is to develop and improve existing features of the SUPERFAMILY database (http://supfam.org), in particular the development of analysis tools and the updating, model-building process and cloud computing pipeline. Also to exploit the biological results for novel research within the scope of the group's existing research activities, and publish in high impact journals (see previous publications).

Relevant Experience, Skills and Knowledge

EssentialDesirable
  • Knowledge of basic biology
  • Experience working with computers
  • Some programming/scripting skill
  • Experience of SQL database use
  • Knowledge of Perl
  • Linux system administration skills
  • Bioinformatics experience
  • Familiarity with protein sequence analysis, genomics
  • Knowledge of molecular biology
  • Relevant Qualifications

    EssentialDesirable
  • BSc and PhD in a scientific subject
  • PhD in theoretical and computational biology or bioinformatics
  • N.B. will consider applicants who have just submitted (or are about to submit) their PhD thesis.

    2) PhD students

    PhD studentship available via competitive process. Projects are available in any area of theoretical and computational molecular biology relevant to the research interests of the Gough group. You need an interest in evolution/molecular biology, a good class science degree and some computational ability.
