LaTeX2e Files for MIUA Proceedings

A LaTeX2e document class and a BibTeX bibliography style have been created to help you turn your paper into camera-ready copy for the MIUA Proceedings. Please read this page carefully in its entirety for full instructions on how to acquire and use the files.

Note: it is assumed that you have sufficient prior experience of LaTeX; we cannot offer technical support for this material.

Files to Download

As an absolute minimum, you will need miuaproc.cls and miuaproc.bst. Note that the document class has been written for LaTeX2e; in the unlikely event that you are using the long-obsolete LaTeX 2.09, you will need to upgrade (or change the class to a LaTeX 2.09-compliant style file).

You may also need Donald Arsenau's citation package, cite.sty, if this package has not been installed with your LaTeX.

We recommend that you download either the zip archive or the tarfile, as this will give you all the files listed above. When unzipping onto a PC running DOS or Windows, ensure that text files are converted from Unix format to DOS format (CR+LF at ends of lines). Your zip archive software may do this automatically; if using InfoZip's unzip tool, you must specify the -a option. Note that the tarfile has been compressed with gzip; you will need to run gunzip on it if your tar cannot deal with gzipped files itself.

After unzipping/untarring, print the file miuaguide.ps on a PostScript laser printer and keep the output for future reference. Then process the file miuaguide.tex by running LaTeX, then BibTeX, then LaTeX twice (to resolve all references). You can generate output from miuaguide.dvi in the normal way (e.g., using dvips) and compare it with what you printed earlier. If all is well, the only significant difference should be a blank space in your output, in place of the MIUA logo visible in the hardcopy of the downloaded PostScript file.

PostScript Fonts

You are expected to use Times Roman as the main font for your MIUA paper; consequently, miuaproc.cls has been set up to use PostScript fonts. This capability should exist in most recent installations of LaTeX. If you see lots of font substitution warnings when processing miuaguide.tex, then it is possible that the required font files are unavailable on your system. In this event, consult your local LaTeX guru for assistance.

Adding PostScript font capability to your LaTeX installation is relatively straightforward. The files you will need are available at any CTAN site, e.g. ftp.tex.ac.uk, in the psfonts directory as zipfile lw35nfss.zip.

If it proves impossible to use PostScript fonts, then the default Computer Modern fonts of LaTeX will be accepted as a substitute. To enable these, edit the file miuaproc.cls and follow the instructions therein.
