In early March, EPSRC announced a grant of £1m to Prof Dave Cliff in Computer Science, working with colleagues Prof Ian Sommervillee of St Andrews University and Dr Radu Calinescu of Aston University. The title of the grant is "Cloud Computing for Large-Scale Complex IT Systems (LSCITS)". The research conducted at the three sites will explore new tools and techniques required for the engineering of ultra-large scale remotely-accessed "cloud" computing facilities and services.

This is the second tranche of research funding for the UK LSCITS Initiative that Dave Cliff directs from Bristol, taking EPSRC's total funding for the Initiative to over £10m since it commenced in 2007.

The grant is set to commence in May 2010 and will end in May 2013. It will fund three postdoctoral researchers each working for three years, two PhD students, and the provision of additional cloud-computing infrastructure at the University of St Andrews Cloud Computing Co-Laboratory (STACC). It has a number of industrial collaborators including Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, and SAP.
