Xiaosong Wang and Prof. Majid Miremhdi, members of the Computer Vision group, have been awarded the Best Industrial Paper prize at the 20th British Machine Vision Conference held at Queen Mary, University of London on 7-10 September, 2009. The award is sponsored by Computer Recognition Systems Ltd.
The title of the winning paper is “HMM based Archive Film Defect Detection with Spatial and Temporal Constraints”. In the paper, a novel probabilistic approach to detecting defects in digitized archive film is proposed, leading to detection results that are comparatively more accurate than the current state-of-the-art. This research work is part of a project to develop an automated restoration system for archived film and video, which is funded by Great Western Research, ITV and University of Bristol.
