Dr Ashley Montanaro, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Computer Science, has been awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Theoretical Computer Science by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

Students from Computer Science & Electrical Engineering are invited to a talk by Senior Application Engineer Paul Hudson. Members of the department took part in the Bath Half Marathon held on the 15th of March. A number of staff and students of the department take part regularly in these races this year was no exception.

The UK funding agency has recently announced a new Network called CryptoForma,
which aims to bridge the divide between two different schools of analysing cryptographic protocols. Based at the University of Kent, the Bristol Cryptography Research Group will form a lead partner in this network along with a number of other leading players.

Students will be encouraged to "Hack Bristol" at an event in the Computer Science Department in March. Participants will create their hacks - creative solutions to programming or hardware challenges - in teams, in a programming marathon over the weekend of the 14th and 15th of March.

On March 17th, an event will be organised to launch the Bristol SIGGRAPH Professional Chapter. This chapter is intended to bring together professionals from industry, academia, and art. Interested parties are welcome to attend the event.

The first University open day of the year will be held on Thursday 25 June 2009.
Our Admissions tutor Dr Mike Fraser will be presenting two talks in the Pugsley lecture theatre. The talks will take place at 10.00 and 13.15.
