Cryptographer recognised with Wolfson award

Bristol cryptographer Prof Nigel Smart has been awarded a Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award. The awards are given by the Royal Society to 'individuals of proven outstanding ability to undertake independent, original research'. Only 25 awards are given each year and each award lasts for five years.

HP Innovation Research Award 2008

Dr Walterio Mayol-Cuevas has been awarded a HP Innovation Research Award 2008 as principal investigator on a research collaboration with HP's central research arm. Only 41 academics from around the world received one of these awards out of more than 450 applications. A PhD Studentship is available and applications are open until mid September 2008.

Student Shortlisted for SET Award for the Best IT Student

We are proud to announce that Jason Mayes has been shortlisted for the IET Award for the Best IT Student judged by the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Jason graduated in July 2008 with a First-class honours classification. He was nominated for this award not only for his high level of academic achievement but also for his enthusiasm and lasting contribution to the department.
