BCCS student wins poster prize

Chris Musselle, a PhD student working in the Department of Computer Science, has won the Best Student Poster prize at the 6th European Conference on Complex Systems, held at Warwick University on the 21-25 September 2009. The award was sponsored by Springer.

In July 2009 the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures travelled to Tokyo and Osaka for another series of presentations after their broadcast on UK national TV last December. The lectures featured Bristol's unique research into Visual Animal Biometrics including a live demo that explains the scientific concepts behind the work to a general audience.

The department received around 600 high quality applications for the 80 home funded undergraduate places and we are delighted that so many candidates achieved the high grades required for admission.

Record number of undergraduate prizes sponsored by industry

This year a record number of prizes have been won by Bristol University Computer Science undergraduates. A total of thirty five prizes were sponsored by nine different industrial partners, including IBM, Google, Toshiba, Infineon, Netcraft, XMOS, IPL, Detica and Sportcraft.
