The syllabus for the CS1 course in 1985-6 was:

Principles and practice of programming in a high-level language, with emphasis
on a structured approach to problem analysis and program design.
Program documentation.  The Pascal run-time system.  Introduction to
microprocessor systems and low-level programming languages.  The design and
use of data structures.
