Hands-on Computer Science & Robot Programming.
We organize a robot programming event for local students aged 15-17.
Inspired by the world's first
autonomous mobile robots, made here in Bristol by Dr Grey Walter in the 1950s, the challenge was to
program a robot to find a torch placed randomly within an arena while
negotiating obstacles (and other robots). Robots started within a circle,
and had 2 minutes to find the light in 3 runs. In the event of a tie
the robot with the smallest program was declared winner.
It is an exciting and rewarding 2hrs of learning and fun and we are
looking forward to continue this event in future years.
This event is organized by Dr
Walterio Mayol with the help of Andy Mackintosh (EngMaths), Tom
Banwell, Pished Bunnun, Anthony Buck and Jose Martinez. Done in
collaboration with the
Widening Participation Office.
