International Students

We welcome applications from students living outside of the UK and we accept a wide range of qualifications with grades equivalent to the required upper second class Degree. Details and examples can be found in the Entry Requirements section. If English is not your first language, then we will also require evidence that you will be capable of studying in English. This is usually 6.5 or above on the IELTS test. Applications can be submitted to the department direct or via the Faculty Office or International Office. Please refer to the Entry Requirements and How to Apply sections before applying. Details of fees for international students can be found in the University Prospectus.

There are very few scholarships or funding opportunities for postgraduate study, but you can find details of the options available on the Student Finance site.

A large number of international students study at Bristol and the University provides a wide range of facilities to meet their needs. There is an International Centre which provides advice and help, as well as providing a meeting place for overseas students. The Student Union also has many country-specific groups, such as the Chinese, Algerian, Thai and Hellenic Societies.

The University provides guaranteed accommodation for most international students for the duration of the year if you are accepted onto a full-time Postgraduate degree programme and apply before a set deadline. More information about this and the halls of residence can be found in the University Accommodation Prospectus.

As with many of the larger cities in the UK, Bristol is a diverse community with many ethnic groups represented, making it an ideal location to study for international students. It is also within easy reach of London by bus or train, and is an excellent base for UK tourist attractions.
