The Vision Group welcomes 5 new PhD students this October: David Hanwell, Jack Greenhalgh, Chris Beck, Rob Frampton and Shuda Li.
Two papers were presented at ECCV2010 on dynamic texture analysis and on archive film restoration.

New €3.2 million project aims to build computers that can learn from humans
The EU-funded project 'COGNITO', will investigate the learning of human sensory-motor activities.
Two PhD studentships available (Computer Vision Group at the University of Bristol & the Bristol Robotics Laboratory at the University of West of England) involving the use of computer vision and robotic manipulation of objects to enable a robot to read text printed on various objects as a means of providing assistance to disabled, or aging, companions.
PhD studentship available in collaboration with Jaguar Cars Ltd. with the aim to develop novel driver assistance algorithms for automated sign and text recognition.
Ben Daudney joins the Research Institute of Visual Computing as an RA at Swansea University.

September 09: Xiaosong Wang and Prof. Majid Miremhdi have been awarded the Best Industrial Paper prize at the 20th British Machine Vision Conference.
August 09: John McGonigle spent two weeks as a visitor to the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata where he was hosted by the Computer Vision and Statistical Recognition Unit as part of a Royal Society project.
July 09: Penguin Recognition Project on Show in Japan as the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures travelled to Tokyo and Osaka after their broadcast on UK national TV last December.
May 09: PhD studentship available to join an interdisciplinary team working on the development of an Intelligent Micro Air Vehicle.

Sept 08 : Pished Bunnun and Walterio Mayol-Cuevas presented their paper OutlinAR: an assisted interactive model building system with reduced computational effort at ISMAR 2008.
Sept 08 : We presented two papers at BMVC 2008. Tracking with Active Contours Using Dynamically Updated Shape Information by John Chiverton, Xianghua Xie and Majid Mirmehdi, and Appearance Based Indexing for Relocalisation in Real-Time Visual SLAM by Denis Chekhlov, Walterio Mayol-Cuevas, Andrew Calway.
Aug 08 : Walterio Mayol-Cuevas has been awarded a HP Innovation Research Award, one of only 41 academics worldwide. The award will fund a PhD scholarship to work in collaboration with HP Labs on a Computer Vision project entitled 'Anywhere Authoring using Interactive Computer Vision and Mobile Sensors'. May 08 : ViewNet project starts. Andrew Calway and Walterio Mayol-Cuevas are technical leads on a 1.5M GBP EPSRC/TSB funded project to develop new personal localisation and mapping systems based on sensor fusion. More information
