Statistical Regularities in Low and High Dynamic Range Images

Tania Pouli, Douglas Cunningham, Erik Reinhard, Statistical Regularities in Low and High Dynamic Range Images. ACM Symposium on Applied Perception in Graphics and Visualization (APGV). July 2010. No electronic version available. External information

Computer graphics as well as related disciplines often benefit fromunderstanding the human visual system and its input. In this paper, we study statistical regularities of both conventional as well ashigh dynamic range images, and find that several commonly heldwisdoms regarding natural image statistics do not directly apply tohigh dynamic range data. These results have implications for boththe study of human vision, as well as for the design of algorithms incomputer graphics and computer vision that rely on such statistical regularities.
